Behavior-Based Safety (BBS)

Cultivating safe behaviors, building a safety culture, and managing risky behaviors begins with a shared agreement to care for and look after each other. Activities involve observing safe behaviors by approaching, praising, and reminding individuals with appropriate words, timing, and frequency to control and modify unsafe behaviors. This requires a framework for making informed decisions about showing concern and addressing each individual's behavior. Results are measured by the modification of unsafe behaviors and the maintenance of safe behaviors, even if unsafe behaviors persist for some individuals. This is all part of cultivating behavior-based safety (BBS).

The goal is to create a safe organizational culture. Annual training ensures drivers review their knowledge and understanding of safety management, maintaining safe driving practices, and includes workshops to practice appropriate approaches to greeting, praising, and reminding individuals.
